Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Technical Assistant for the Department of Medicine – Division of Hematology within Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Additionally, under direction of the Special Hemostasis Laboratory supervisor and director, the Senior Technical Assistant performs routine laboratory tasks related to coagulation of
laboratory specimens and facilitates the daily functioning of the Special Hemostasis Laboratory. Processes and enters lab results from worksheets into computer database.
Duties
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Assists medical technologists in proper preparation and processing of special coagulation specimens.
- Moreover, maintains log of all specimens shipped and assists in tracking of specimens, when required.
- Transport’s lab specimens from hospital lab and outpatient clinic to the Special Hemostasis Laboratory in accordance with regulations regarding blood specimen handling.
- Also, assures specimen requirements are met for special coagulation testing.
- Furthermore, packs and ships specimens according to IATA regulations.
- Likewise, answers questions from referring physicians regarding the status of specific coagulation tests.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in a related field.
- Moreover, minimum of one (1) year prior laboratory assistance.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with handling laboratory specimens.
- Also, knowledge of camputer and database technology.
- Likewise, additional education or related experience may be substituted for required qualifications on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with coagulation testing.
