Each year, St. Lawrence awards tens of millions of dollars in scholarships and financial aid. Some of this is based on your family’s financial need, and the remainder is based on the strength of your application. Each student can only be awarded one scholarship. If a student qualifies for more than one, the scholarship which is the most prestigious will be awarded.

As part of your application review, you will automatically be considered for each of the following four scholarships:

The Trustee Scholarship is awarded to the top male and top female, first-year students. The scholarship is based on academic excellence, character and leadership. The scholarship amount covers full tuition for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Momentum Scholarship is awarded based on academic and co-curricular achievements, character, and citizenship. This $128,000 scholarship ($32,000 per year) is awarded for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Sesquicentennial Scholarship is awarded based on academic and co-curricular achievements, character, and citizenship. Named in honor of St. Lawrence’s 150th anniversary, this $88,000 scholarship ($22,000 per year) is awarded for up to four years or eight semesters.

The University Scholarship is awarded based on academic and co-curricular achievements, as well as character and citizenship. This $72,000 scholarship ($18,000 per year) is awarded for up to four years or eight semesters.

The following scholarships require an additional form and essay to be submitted to be considered for them. The form and essay must be submitted at the same time as your Common Application.

The Kirk Douglas Scholarship is for students from under-represented and low-income backgrounds who have demonstrated contributions to diversity, leaderships skills, ambition and potential to contribute to diversity within the campus community. This scholarship covers the full comprehensive fee and program expenses. Students admitted to St. Lawrence University and qualify for this award, are invited to apply after we notify our regular decisions applicants of their status.

The Presidential Diversity Scholarship is awarded to students of any race who have demonstrated commitment to and appreciation for racial and ethnic diversity. This $32,000 per year scholarship ($128,000 over four years) is awarded for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Vilas Scholarship supports students interested in a business career and the selected scholars are awarded $88,000 ($22,000 per year) for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Leadership Scholarship is for students with strong leadership experience. This scholarship of $52,000 ($13,000 per year) is awarded for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Community Service Scholarship is used to recognize students who have served their communities and motivated others to get involved. This $52,000 scholarship ($13,000 per year) is awarded for up to four years or eight semesters.

St. Lawrence University also has special programs and awards for first-year students, Presidential Achievement Award, Dean’s Incentive Award, Augsbury/North Country Scholarship, and the Book Award Scholarship.

The Augsbury/North Country Scholarship is for North Country and Canadian high school students whose high schools participate in our program. The program provides a $128,000 scholarship ($32,000 per year) to selected scholars for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Book Award Scholarship is a program which recognizes service to others. Schools who participate in this program nominate students to receive a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year) for up to four years or eight semesters.

The Presidential Achievement Award varies in amount and is based on achievement of all kinds. This award is not a merit scholarship nor is it based on financial need. Students selected for this award will receive the same amount each year regardless of financial circumstances or academic record provided that the student is making satisfactory academic progress toward their degree. Students receiving tuition benefits or scholarships valued at $30,000 or more are not eligible for the Presidential Achievement Award.

The Dean’s Incentive Award is provided to students who demonstrate promise for being successful in their college work. Students are selected for this award at the time of admission and will receive the award each year regardless of financial circumstances or academic record provided that the student is making satisfactory academic progress toward their degree. Students receiving tuition benefits or scholarships are not eligible for the Dean’s Incentive Award.
