Scholarships at Durham University, UK

Scholarships are available for all incoming students at Durham University.

Having the moral of “Her foundations are upon the holy hills”, Durham University is one of the oldest universities in England. Founded in 1832, the university is a public collegiate research university. It was one of the first universities to commence tuition in England for more than 600 years, after Oxford and Cambridge. Also, it is one of the institutions known as the third-oldest university in England. Moreover, the university currently is in 74th position globally in QS World University Rankings.

Durham University supports the best students irrespective of financial circumstances. Thus, it offers various types of scholarships and bursaries on the basis of merit, need and faculty. Those fundings are either by the University, through partnerships with external organisations or through generous donations from alumni and friends of the University. Such scholarships include Robert Young Scholarship, Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships, Brian Cooper Scholarship and more. Likewise, there is the Choral and Organ Scholarships. The scholarship is offered by the Chapter of Durham Cathedral to a student who obtains admission to Durham University; similarly, it has partly contributions from a generous grant by the Michael James Music Trust.


All students enrolling in full time undergraduate as well as postgraduate degrees. Furthermore, it is essential that candidates should be academically able to follow their course of study at Durham.


Choral Scholarships are worth:

  • £1,584 in the first year,
  • £1,888 in the second year, and
  • £2,203 for third and subsequent years
