Fully-funded scholarships at La Trobe University

Applications are now open for the Funded CERN Openlab Summer Student Program. Each summer, CERN openlab runs a nine-week program for bachelor’s and master’s students specializing in subjects related to computer science. These students come to CERN to work on cutting-edge projects with our collaborators, gaining hands-on experience with the latest ICT solutions.

The CERN openlab summer-student program is much more than just a summer at CERN. It can lead to follow-on projects in your home institute. It may even inspire you to become an entrepreneur in cutting-edge computing technologies. Further, the students participating in the program work on projects related to specific topics, each with a dedicated CERN supervisor. At the end of their stay at CERN, the students produce a report and present their work in a short presentation in the CERN IT department.

Benefits

  • Students receive a stipend of 90 CHF per day during contractual dates (generally 61 days) is sponsored by CERN
  • Also, the CERN openlab industrial members and should cover accommodation and living costs during the nine-week stay.
  • Coverage of students’ health and accident insurance are by the CERN
  • Students also get a travel allowance on a lump-sum basis.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this program, applicants must be:

  • a Bachelor’s or Masters’ student who will complete at least three years of full-time studies at the university level by next spring in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics — with a strong computing profile
  •  interested in working on an advanced ICT project for nine weeks during the period from June-September 2020

Application Process

All applicants apply online. Furthermore, applicants must submit the following documents along with the online application:

  • CV,
  • recommendation letter(s) by university supervisor(s),
  • a motivation letter with an indication of the preferred area of work,
  • academic transcripts for the current year

However, please note that incomplete applications will not be into consideration.
