Caird Research Fellowship at Royal Museums Greenwich 2020

Royal Museums Greenwich has a well-established fellowship program supporting high-quality research that provides new perspectives on its collections. Among several Fellowship program, the Royal Museums Greenwich invites application for 2020 Caird Research Fellowship. Candidates are welcome to engage with the thematic priorities which, for this call, comprise the following:

  • The migration of people, objects and ideas
  • British identities in imperial, postcolonial and global contexts
  • Human perspectives on the modern maritime world
  • Understandings of nation, community, and identity in museum practice
  • Developments in citizen heritage, public engagement, and heritage science
  • Female patronage, art, architecture, and performance in the Stuart court
  • Naval/military uniform and concerns regarding status, display, and identity

Fully Funded Caird Research Fellowship

The duration of the Caird Research Fellowship depends upon the candidate’s research work. The minimum duration for the fellowship is 3 months and can not last beyond 12 months. Further, the Fellowship award is £1,600 per calendar month. The award is payable directly to the Fellow’s institution or to the Fellow. Fellowships may commence in the October following appointment or earlier by arrangement.

Eligibility for Caird Research Fellowship at Royal Museums Greenwich

The Museum supports innovative and cross-disciplinary research. Hence, it seeks to encourage creative and practice-based projects in areas such as visual arts, performance, and literature. Moreover, the Museum supports the fellowship in the following areas

  • Art history
  • Maritime history
  • Material culture studies
  • Anthropology
  • Museum and heritage studies
  • Creative arts
  • Conservation studies
  • Area studies and environmental studies
  • Cultural geography
  • Literary studies
  • Histories of science and technology

The fellowship program mainly supports study at a post-doctoral or equivalent level. Hence, the Museum encourages applications from scholars of all nationalities and career stages who have been awarded a PhD, or who expect this to occur before the start of the fellowship. 

The Fellows successful to receive the Caird Research Fellowship must adhere to the following principle.

  • The Museum will receive printed acknowledgment in any and all publications resulting in whole or in part from research carried out during the period of the Fellowship.
  • The Fellow will provide the Museum (through the Research Department) with copies of all publications supported in whole or in part by the Fellowship.
  • The Fellow will provide the Museum with a written report on the completion of their Fellowship.
  • During the tenure of the Fellowship, a Fellow will be expected to attend conferences or symposia on behalf of the Museum and to participate in Museum programs and events for a variety of audiences, including seminars, writing blogs and talks.

How to apply for Fellowship at Royal Museums Greenwich?

In order to apply for the Research fellowship, the candidates must download and complete the application form. Moreover, the following four documentation is necessary to apply:

  1. A completed application form, which asks for brief personal details, the title and duration of the proposed research project and the names and addresses of two academic referees.
  2. A curriculum vitae; this should be kept short (a maximum of 3 pages) and include details of the applicant’s education, employment history, and major publications or papers delivered.
  3. Likewise, an outline of the proposed research project, which should not exceed two sides of A4 paper.
  4. Also, a timetable for its completion, and proposals for making the results available

Deadline

The Royal Museums Greenwich accepts the application for the Caird Research Fellowship until 6 October 2019. Applications arriving after the deadline are not eligible for the fellowship.
