University of Ghana Henkel Foundation Scholarship 2020-21

The applications for the Funded Scholarship at the University of Ghana have opened.

University of Ghana, Legon, is pleased to receive applications from members of the University community for a grant from the Gerda Henkel Foundation of Germany to support the training of Ph.D. students in the Humanities under a project titled Enhancing Doctoral Training in the Humanities in West Africa.

Moreover, the University of Ghana has received a grant from the Gerda Henkel Foundation of Germany to
support the training of Ph.D. students in the Humanities under a project titled Enhancing Doctoral
Training in the Humanities in West Africa. Also, the University of Ghana will be the
a sub-regional hub for the training of Ph.D. scholars in the historical humanities (History,
Archaeology, Historical Islamic Studies, Art History, Philosophy, History of Law, History of
Science, Prehistory and Early History, Classics as well as other disciplines with historical component).
Furthermore, the project will fund the tuition, accommodation, research, stipend, and airfare of international
students starting from the 2020/2021 academic year.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must meet the following requirements to receive the funded Scholarship at the University of Ghana

  • Applicants must have successfully completed a Master’s degree in any of the disciplines listed
    above, or in a related field.
  • In addition to that, they should have excellent academic credentials and demonstrate motivation and commitment to pursue an academic career.
  • Also, they must have a thorough knowledge of the language of instruction (English)
  • Furthermore, applicants must be a  national or permanent resident of one of the following
    West-African countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, and Senegal

Funding

The funding for the program will include tuition fees, accommodation, research, stipend and airfare of the International students starting from the academic year 2020-21.

Documents

The candidates must submit the following documents to the University

  • Graduate and Undergraduate Certificates as well as Graduate and Undergraduate Transcripts
  • Also, one-page motivation statement
  • Additionally, Ph.D. research proposal of not more than 3 pages(of1.5linespaced minimum)clearly
    outlining the background, objectives, scope, and methodology for the applicant’s research.
  • Furthermore, applicants curriculum vitae as well as a copy of the applicant’s passport or national ID card

Duration of program

While the Ph.D. program is generally for four years, funding for the program is for three
years.
