The name of the scholarship is the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships For Young Leaders Program.Full scholarships are available for exceptionally qualified candidates who have been accepted for study at GRIPS. Additionally, international students applying for the Young Leaders Program at GRIPS can apply for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships. The organizers allocate the scholarships on a competitive basis and only a limited number of scholarships are available. Furthermore, candidates have to be overseas students that the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General, University, or Authority recommends.

Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships for Young Leaders Program are available to undertake Masters’s level programs at Japan Universities.

International students from countries that Japan has diplomatic relations with.

Scholarship Benefits:

The scholarship award provides for a monthly stipend of 242,000 yen per month (rate in FY 2019; the amount is subject to change) to cover living expenses such as food, clothing, and other daily expenses, as well as accommodation, transportation, medical treatment, insurance, and various miscellaneous expenses related to the study at GRIPS. Furthermore, this stipend is fixed and cannot be increased to cover family members. The scholarship also covers the university application fees, admission fees, and tuition.

Additionally, scholars will get an economy-class air ticket from their home country to Japan upon enrollment at GRIPS and an economy-class air ticket from Japan to their home country upon completion of their studies at GRIPS.

Eligibility Criteria for Fully Funded Scholarships

Applicants must be below the age of 35 as of 1 April 2020 and are nationals of countries with which Japan has diplomatic relations. Additionally, they have to be overseas students who do not reside in Japan.

Furthermore, the Young Leaders Program is program is open to exceptionally promising young government officials with considerable working experiences in the area of public administration. Additionally, a minimum of 3 years of working experience in the field in the applicant’s home country. Additionally, the organizers will admit students on the basis of their potential to become future leaders at home, to play important roles in their countries’ development, and to maintain the lasting friendship and trust of Japan and other countries around the world.

Application Procedure:

All application procedures for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarships are conducted through Japanese embassies, consulates in your countries, or recommending authorities in the eligible countries. Additionally, the application deadline is usually around mid-October but applicants must check with their Japanese embassies for the submission date to the embassies.
