Is investing in reusable logistics equipment actually worth it for a mid-sized warehouse?

I’ve been going back and forth with the finance team for weeks now about whether we should finally make the jump to a fully reusable system for our warehouse in Dubai South. We’re currently using a mix of single-use pallets and cheap disposable packaging for our outgoing orders, but the waste is getting ridiculous and honestly the costs are starting to pile up in a way that’s hard to ignore. I was reading about how the UAE is pushing hard on its Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031, and how companies like Carrefour and Lulu are already using reusable crates for daily store replenishment . It’s got me thinking that maybe we’re falling behind by not modernizing our approach. I’ve heard about IFCO’s crate pooling system expanding in the region with integrated washing and reverse logistics, which sounds impressive but also possibly too big for our scale . What I really need is to figure out if investing in proper reusable logistics equipment for warehouse operations Dubai would actually give us a decent ROI, or if it’s only worth it for the massive operations. I’ve seen some suppliers like Crateco offering heavy-duty plastic pallets with steel reinforcement that seem durable , but I’m worried about the upfront cost and whether we’d actually manage the return logistics properly without it becoming a headache. Has anyone around here made the switch and actually seen the savings add up, or is it more of a nice idea that ends up being more trouble than it’s worth for mid-sized operations?
