I like to follow recipe videos on my iPhone, but it’s annoying having to stop and unlock my phone with messy hands every few minutes. I’ve got a small TV in the kitchen, but it’s not the smartest model, and AirPlay only works when it feels like it. Has anyone figured out a quick, no-fuss way to throw a video from the phone onto the TV so you can just glance up while chopping or stirring?

I ran into the same struggle after constantly pausing videos with flour on my fingers. What finally worked was using an app that mirrors the iPhone screen straight to the TV over Wi-Fi, without touching the TV menus at all. This iPhone to TV screen mirroring is what I’ve been using lately. I just open the recipe on my phone, hit mirror, and it pops up on the kitchen TV right away. No lag, even when rewinding or jumping between steps, and it saves me from trying to operate the phone mid-cooking.

In my place the connection got a lot more stable after I moved the router closer to the hallway instead of keeping it hidden behind appliances. The kitchen tends to have signal dead zones because of metal surfaces and microwaves, so even small adjustments made streaming smoother. I also keep my phone on the 5 GHz network — it handles video way better when other people are online or watching something in another room.
