Overview

Swinburne University of Technology (often simply called Swinburne) is an Australian public university based in Melbourne, Victoria. It was founded in 1908 as the Eastern Suburbs Technical College by George Swinburne in order to serve those without access to further education in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs. Its main campus is located in Hawthorn, a suburb of Melbourne which is located 7.5 km from the Melbourne central business district. In addition to its main Hawthorn campus, Swinburne has campuses in the Melbourne metropolitan area at Wantirna and Croydon as well as has a campus in Sarawak, Malaysia.

The university offers undergraduate and double degrees across a range of study areas. To ensure a balance of theory and practice, Swinburne has developed close ties with different industries which will provide students with opportunities for valuable industry and workplace experience.

Undergraduate students can study at Swinburne’s one of more than 90 partner institutions around the world. Go on exchange or join one of the university’s study abroad programs and get credit towards completing their degree while overseas. Swinburne also offers a range of scholarships to help undergraduate students reach their full potential.

Swinburne University of Technology is an educational institution that greatly acknowledges the presence of international students. To address the needs of international students, support services begin as early as pre-departure. The checklist includes obtaining passport and visa, checking the letter of offer to confirm details, confirming accommodation booking, booking airport pick-up and knowing where to find the airport meeting point and who to contact if lost.

Swinburne provides free airport pick-up for international students upon their arrival. They also offer orientations and briefings as soon as students are settled. Academic assistance, mentoring programs and English learning services are likewise offered.

The annual undergraduate tuition fees are $24,680 for business courses, $23,400 for Arts/Education, and $31,220 for Engineering/Science.

Scholarships at Swinburne provide students with opportunities, and recognizes student excellence and achievement. Scholarships are available for both commencing and current students. Some scholarships are based on academic merit or community service. Other scholarships exist to support students from indigenous backgrounds, students suffering financial hardship and students who have relocated from regional areas to study.

Swinburne scholarships are funded by the university, government and private organizations. A range of scholarships is also available to international students. Some are based in Australia and others are funded internationally. Some scholarships are assessed with a student’s application for study. Others may require students to submit a separate application and supporting documents.
