The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) was incorporated in 1984. Having its headquarters in Melbourne, it is the primary training body for specialist emergency physicians in Australia and New Zealand. Its main focus is the training and examination of specialist emergency physicians for Australia and New Zealand. Admission to Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine requires satisfactory completion of a minimum of seven years of post-graduate medical training, including multiple examinations and presentation of a research project (or equivalent coursework).
ACEM offers Certificate and Diploma programs. The Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) and Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) are aimed at providing doctors working in Emergency Departments with adequate knowledge and sufficient clinical experience to be safe, efficient practitioners. The courses benefit Career Medical Officers, Junior Medical Officers and Visiting Medical Officers/GPs.
