Last week, I kept feeling like I shouldn’t take my usual route home, even though there was no traffic on the app. I went the long way for no reason and later found out there was a bad accident right where I usually drive. Made me wonder — was that my intuition or just me being paranoid? I’ve had moments before where I trusted that “gut nudge” and it worked out, but other times it’s just been me overthinking. How do you even tell the difference?

I’ve had that happen a bunch of times. Once, I left a party early because I suddenly felt like I “had to” — no clue why. Later I found out some drama kicked off after I’d gone. What’s helped me is paying attention to how the feeling shows up. For me, intuition feels calm and certain, while fear or wishful thinking feels noisy and rushed. There’s a good breakdown of this kind of thing on https://shabdroop.com/why-your-gut-feeling-might-be-smarter-than-you-think/ that actually explains why some gut feelings are rooted in past experiences our brain has stored, even if we’re not consciously aware of them.

      • Sometimes I notice people make better calls when they don’t overanalyze every angle. Like when a friend decides on a new job in minutes and ends up loving it, while someone else spends months making spreadsheets and still regrets it. It’s almost like there’s a sweet spot between instinct and logic that can’t be fully measured, but you know it when you see it.
