Hey everyone,

I’ve been exploring the whole process of importing used cars from Japan, and although it is very interesting, it entails a lot of things to be clarified. A little while ago, I found out about Nobuko Japan, which looks like a company that helps you with the sourcing of the Japanese used cars. Before going any further with this vendor, I would really want to hear from someone who has ever imported or used a service like that.

There are a few points that I still need to understand:

1. Vehicle Inspection Reports
The standard inspection reports that exporters provide how reliable are they?
Are there grading terms, conditions, or notes that I need to pay extra attention to?
Is it normal to ask for an additional third-party inspection or do most buyers rely on the inspections done by the exporter?

2. Shipping & Logistics
What’s the usual timeline from choosing a vehicle to getting it at your port?
Are there any common problems about Ro-Ro and container shipping that a first-timer should care about?
Also, how difficult is the paperwork once the car arrives? Do you usually do it yourself or get a customs broker?

3. Total Costs
What other costs apart from the vehicle price and exporter fees do forerunners usually face (domestic transport in Japan, shipping surcharges, port fees, customs duties, compliance modifications, etc.)?
How transparent were they with the full cost breakdown if you worked with Nobuko Japan or similar provider?

Although I have a good understanding of the generic process, I am still very curious about the minute details and the real people’s experiences. Therefore, sharing your tips or insights with me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all very much in advance!
