Overview

Victoria University (VU) is an Australian public university based in Melbourne, Victoria. It is a dual-sector tertiary institution providing courses in both higher education and Technical and Further Education (TAFE). 2016 marked VU’s centenary as an educational institution and its 25th anniversary as a university.

The University has several campuses in Melbourne Central Business District, Melbourne Western Region, and in Sydney, comprising six academic colleges, six research institutes, seven research centres and VU’s Victoria Polytechnic (providing vocational education and training). It also offers courses at partner institutions throughout Asia.

Undergraduate courses at VU include certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas, and bachelor degrees and bachelor degrees with honours.

Students choose to study in one or more of VU’s seven academic colleges: Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Science, Health and Biomedicine, Law and Justice, and Sport and Exercise Science. VU also has a standalone vocational education and training institute, Victoria University Institute of Technology, and Victoria University College which delivers pathway programs and coordinates transnational education.

VU is firmly established as a leader in transnational education, with partners in China (VU is one of the largest Australian TNE providers), Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. VU continues to strengthen operations as an international university that is responsive to the changing world of work locally, nationally and globally.

VU has a wide variety of support programs for international students. Even before they arrive in Australia, the University provides overseas students with the necessary information they need to be well-prepared. A representative of the University will meet new students at the airport and transport them to their accommodation free of charge.

VU also offers assistance to students in terms of accommodation options. The University can help to arrange short-term and long-term accommodation options including student residences, private rentals and homestay. Academic support, counselling services, orientation programs and social activities for international students are all offered by the University.

The annual undergraduate tuition fees are $23,600 for business courses, $20,400 for Arts/Education, and $26,400 for Engineering/Science.

VU helps students with their education costs by providing a range of over 600 scholarships each year. Chancellor’s Scholarships are offered to high-achieving students while sports scholarships are available for elite student athletes.

The University also has numerous equity and merit based scholarships for undergraduate students. Externally funded scholarships, vocational education scholarships, postgraduate and research scholarships and international student scholarships are also available. Eligibility requirements for scholarships at VU are not only based on academic performance, but also on a student’s personal and financial situation.

Other Details The Research Training Program (RTP) Stipend Scholarship assists international students who wish to participate in postgraduate research programs in Australia. It replaces the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS). The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement. Competition is intense and only those applicants with outstanding academic results are likely to be successful.
