Victoria University (VU or Vic Uni) is a public research university based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is a dual-sector university, providing courses in both higher education and technical and further education (TAFE).
The university has several campuses in Melbourne Central Business District, Melbourne Western Region, and in Sydney, comprising six academic colleges, six research institutes, seven research centres and VU’s Victoria Polytechnic. It is one of Australia’s leading universities. VU courses are also delivered by partner institutes throughout Asia, including in China, India, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. Two of the university’s largest partners are Sunway University College in Malaysia and Liaoning University in China.
Students choose to study in one or more of VU’s seven academic colleges: Arts, Business, Education, Engineering and Science, Health and Biomedicine, Law and Justice, and Sport and Exercise Science. VU also has a standalone vocational education and training institute, Victoria University Institute of Technology, and Victoria University College which delivers pathway programs and coordinates transnational education.
VU is firmly established as a leader in transnational education, with partners in China (VU is one of the largest Australian TNE providers), Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. VU continues to strengthen operations as an international university that is responsive to the changing world of work locally, nationally and globally.
VU has a wide variety of support programs for international students. Even before they arrive in Australia, the University provides overseas students with the necessary information they need to be well-prepared. A representative of the University will meet new students at the airport and transport them to their accommodation free of charge.
VU owns and operates student accommodation for students, staff, and guests of the university. In February 2016, the Student Village in Maidstone was replaced with the newly built UniLodge Victoria University, a 13-story apartment building across the road from the Footscray Park Campus on Ballarat Road, Footscray.
