Overview

The University of Queensland (UQ) is a public research university primarily located in Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, Australia. Founded in 1909 by the state parliament, UQ is Australia’s fifth oldest university and is colloquially known as a sandstone university.

In addition to flexibility in program choice, UQ students also benefit from the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of extracurricular activities during their studies. There are exchange opportunities to more than 185 partner institutions in 41 countries and access to more than 190 affiliated clubs and societies, as well as sports and cultural facilities.

UQ is a large university where students can choose from the largest high quality range of undergraduate programs in Queensland 400 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs.

The University of Queensland has comprehensive support programs for overseas students. Even before students come to Australia, the University already offers a pre-departure webinar discussing things such as organizing passport, visa, health insurance, plane tickets and airport pickup and planning accommodation and finances. To make the transition to a new country and culture easier, UQ can meet new students at the Brisbane domestic or international airports and take them to their temporary or permanent accommodation.

To prepare students with university life, the UQ offers orientations and briefings. English language support, international student activities and mentoring programs are also offered. UQ also has dedicated support volunteers, available to discuss with students the working conditions in Australia, the requirements to bring their families and other concerns and queries.

The annual undergraduate tuition fees are $36,336for business courses, $27,824 for Arts/Education, and $38,432 for Engineering/Science.

UQ has a wide variety of scholarships available for every student. Undergraduate, postgraduate and research by higher degree scholarships are available in different areas of study so students can choose which best suits them. UQ awards these scholarships based on academic merit, sports involvement, economic status and extracurricular activities.

The university also offers scholarships for international students who want to study undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at UQ. Most international scholarships are given to students on the basis of academic performance. External scholarships sponsored by the Australian government, private organizations and different industries are as well available at the university.

Total Worth $12,000 per year for up to 5 years
Eligibility and Requirements Awarded before Christmas each year to applicants who achieve a minimum ATAR of 99.90 or equivalent. Academic scholarships are open to Year 12 and gap year students who: are Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holders; or are Australian Permanent Residents, New Zealand citizens, or international students who are completing or have completed Years 11 and 12 in Australia; AND have NOT completed any previous tertiary study other than that undertaken as part of Year 11-12 studies (eg. Enhanced Studies Program); and have applied for a tertiary place through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC); and are intending to enrol as a full-time student in an undergraduate program at The University of Queensland in 2019 (or 2020 if they are deferring their tertiary place); and have UQ listed as their 1st or 2nd QTAC preference.

Total Worth $6,000 per year for up to 4 years

The UQ Sports Achievement Scholarships
Total Worth $3,000 - $10,000
Eligibility and Requirements Awarded before Christmas each year to applicants who achieve a minimum ATAR of 99.90 or equivalent. An applicant is eligible for an award if the applicant: Is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or the holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa; and Is a new or continuing student who is, or intends to be, enrolled at the required enrolment in a relevant program. Note: NZ citizens are not eligible for this scholarship unless they are Australian Permanent Residents
