Overview

RMIT University (officially the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, informally RMIT) is an Australian public research university located in Melbourne, Victoria. The school has programs of study under 23 schools across three academic colleges. With cutting-edge facilities, RMIT remains committed to preparing students for success, both in the academe and in their future work. The school enjoys a global reputation for quality, especially in the areas of engineering, computer science and information systems, accounting and finance, communication and media studies, education, psychology, law, and economics. The school’s solid industry partnerships also provide students with opportunities to apply their knowledge through international or local work placements, which are offered in over half of RMIT’s programs.

In RMIT University, undergraduate students can choose a program under 12 broad areas of interest by opting to take up an honours degree, bachelor degree, associate degree, or higher education diploma depending on their goals and preferred time to completion, which ranges from one up to four years of full-time study.

To ensure that undergraduate students learn to balance theory and practice, RMIT has forged partnerships with numerous top organisations, such as BMW, Deloitte, Adidas, and L’Oreal. This approach helps students gain industry experience and work-ready skills that are directly applicable to any industry. Students even have a chance to spend anywhere from a short-term tour to a full semester overseas.

Being a university that is globally recognized for many of its programs, RMIT opens its doors and reaches out to international students by visiting several countries throughout the year to discuss attractive education pathways that can help them achieve their goals. RMIT schedules visits to the Philippines, Myanmar, China, and Switzerland, aside from having a wide network of registered agents in other countries around the world to ensure that prospective students can obtain all the information they need about studying in RMIT.

International student scholarships are also given to those who are eligible, and these students can choose from more than 500 programs at different levels of study. Along with this, RMIT ensures the well-being of overseas students through various support programs. From the time of arrival, the Mates at RMIT program pairs international students with local students who can provide friendly support while adjusting to life on campus. During the course of study, student well-being advisors are also at hand to attend to any needs or concerns, and the English Ready Centre supports language learning through free lessons, workshops, and activities.

The annual undergraduate tuition fees are $28,800 for business courses, $27,840 for Arts/Education, and $34,560 for Engineering/Science.

RMIT University has a commitment to enriching the lives of students and consequently contributing to the development of communities by awarding more than 2,000 scholarships each year for a variety of study levels. These scholarships can be classified as academic achievement, equity, aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, travel, and research scholarships. Collectively, these scholarships are worth millions of dollars and are meant to cover the majority of study-related costs. Students can apply for any of these scholarships by providing the necessary supporting documentation and committing to full-time study at a Melbourne campus for a program that lasts for at least a year.

Aside from internal scholarships, a large number of external scholarships are also available to deserving students. These scholarships have different eligibility criteria, so it is important that students carefully go over the requirements and confirm that they are eligible before applying.
