Oxford Brookes University is a public university in Oxford, England. It can trace its origins to 1865 when the former Oxford School of Art was established. In 1992 it became a university and was renamed to honour its former principal, John Henry Brookes. Oxford Brookes University is the sixth largest employer in Oxfordshire.
Oxford Brookes University has been named as one of the top 50 young (under 50 years old) universities in the world by the QS World University Rankings 2018 – and is the only UK university to make the list. The university is divided into four faculties, Business, Health and Life Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Technology, Design and Environment. Oxford Brookes University has three main campuses and a fourth in Swindon: Oxford Brookes Business School, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment.
Oxford Brookes University was ranked among the world’s top institutions in 16 subjects and four subject areas in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2017. In 2016 Oxford Brookes University was listed as one of the world’s top universities for its international outlook in the Times Higher Education’s (THE) Top 200 international universities. It is among the top 400 universities in the world, ranked 361 in the QS World University Rankings 2018. The university has 10 National Teaching Fellowships from the Higher Education Authority and was among the top 25 in the UK for teaching quality in the Times Good University Guide 2016.
