Overview

Deakin University is a public university in Victoria, Australia. Established in 1974 with the passage of the Deakin University Act 1974, the university was named after the second Prime Minister of Australia, Alfred Deakin.

Its main campuses are in Melbourne’s Burwood suburb, Geelong Waurn Ponds, Geelong Waterfront and Warrnambool, as well as the online Cloud Campus. Deakin also has learning centres in Dandenong, Craigieburn and Werribee, all in the state of Victoria.

Deakin offers unlimited options when it comes to undergraduate degrees. With a wide variety of study areas such as architecture, social sciences, business, criminology, education, engineering, entertainment, health, information systems and psychology, students will be able to choose a course that best fits their interest.

Flexible study options such as online study, full or part-time, trimester options, combined courses, cross institutional and combined learning modes are also available at Deakin. Deakin’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL), work placements and internship program gives students the opportunity to undertake a discipline specific work placement as part of their degree. Global study opportunities are also available.

Deakin University offers outstanding support services for overseas students. A pre-departure guide is available so that students are directed accordingly before their arrival in Australia. The university also offers airport pick-up and briefings upon their arrival. Accommodation options include on campus residences and off campus housing service. Apart from this, students are oriented on useful information about living and settling in Australia for the long term.

The university has on campus international support advisers that provide advice, support and encouragement to international students on a range of matters, including: student visas, academic difficulties, homesickness/feelings of isolation, social or cultural adjustment difficulties. To improve their socialization skills, international students are advised to attend events which are scheduled throughout their study. Apart from all these, International student scholarship grants are also given to eligible students.

Deakin offers a wide range of scholarships to assist students from many different backgrounds pay for their university fees. Undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships are awarded to students who pass the eligibility requirements. To assist students under research degree programs, research scholarships are made available which provides students with a substantial living allowance.

The university also recognizes high-achieving students with a wide range of academic excellence scholarships. Curtin also has international student scholarships which are awarded on the basis of academic merit. Other Australian scholarships available at the university include the Australian awards scholarships, endeavour study, research and professional.
