Overview

Southern Cross University (SCU) is an Australian public university, with campuses at Lismore and Coffs Harbour in northern New South Wales, and at Coolangatta, the most southern suburb of the Gold Coast in Queensland.

SCU offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate academic programs and is organised into four academic Faculties and two colleges.

Southern Cross University has created comprehensive support services for overseas students. Support starts as early as pre-departure. International students are given information about organizing student visa, things and important documents to bring, understanding OSHC insurance, safety in Australia and accommodation options. Once students are properly settled in, the university encourages them to attend the week long comprehensive orientation for international students. Dedicated international student advisers are also available to orient students about organizing a mobile phone and internet service, opening a bank account or any advisers questions and concerns.

Southern Cross University is ranked 3oth in Australia/New Zealand according to the QS World University Rankings.

Staff and students at Southern Cross University undertake research in a wide range of areas, including civil engineering, crop and pasture production, complementary and alternative medicine, ecology, education, environmental science and management, fisheries sciences, forestry sciences, geochemistry, human movement and sports science, human rights research, information technology, nursing, oceanography, policy and administration, philosophy and ethics, resources engineering and extractive metallurgy, tourism, and zoology.

Other Details These scholarships are funded through the Indigenous Student Success Program. Program that is provided federally by the Commonwealth of Australia (Canberra). If you will be receiving support from other sources you should check with that authority before applying for a Commonwealth Indigenous Scholarship from Southern Cross University. You are only permitted to receive one education cost scholarship and one accommodation scholarship at any one time (January to June / July to December). If you have concerns please contact the Scholarships office to discuss further.

Eligibility and Requirements Applicants must meet the criteria for low socio-economic status by demonstrating one of the following: Receiving or expecting to receive a Centrelink means-tested income support payment (such as Disability Support Pension, Parenting Payment Single, Carer Payment etc.). Dependent commencing students aged between 16–20 years whose parent/guardian is in receipt of Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Part A for this student at the time of application.

Other Details You are not eligible for consideration if you: Already hold a bachelor’s degree or higher-level award, unless the award you hold is a prerequisite to the bachelor course you are enrolled in (or will be enrolled in). Already receive or will be receiving another type of Commonwealth/government funded Scholarship; for example, Indigenous Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship. Already receive or will be receiving another non-government funded scholarship valued at more than $6000 per year.
